As the last session began, the party, along with King Xanthrum’s emissaries, had just arrived at the outer gates into the City of Evendor. After a quick discussion on what needed to be done, the group headed back to the Vanguard Keep to see what they might have learned from Duran Whitfield and the other Doom they had dropped off the night before.
Douglan and Allanon met with Commander Ranier Aldawin who informed them that Duran had stated that he was visited by a “Shadow”. A member of the Dooms who helps to spread information and requests from the central organization to its covert members. The Shadow asked Duran to question Anton about his involvement with the Githyanki and then to kill him. Ranier was waiting on further instruction from The Vanguard High Command on how to proceed with the Whitfields. He promised that the two Dooms would never see the light of day again.
The party next split up with Douglan, Allanon and the Xanthrum emissaries heading to Castle Evendor to try to arrange a meeting with the King. Nightingale, Brash, and Eranon headed into the city to try to find the bard that oversees the city for the Penumbra College.
Douglan was able to arrange a meeting with King Evendor through his relationship with Lord Falmorn Riovar; the head of the royal guard at the castle. Unfortunately, the meeting did not go as hoped. Both King Cordell and Queen Jenbellis were very frustrated and rude with their visitors; telling the emissaries to go home and not even taking the time to speak with Allanon and Douglan. Douglan was confused by their behavior as it was very out of character for his king and queen. Lord Falmorn could offer little explanation beyond the king’s continued recovery from the assassination attempt. An attempt that the castle was still trying to understand.
After spending some time walking the city and asking questions, Nightingale was able to track down two Penumbra bards looking after a theatre house called The Watchtower Theatre in the Entertainment District. Starling and Wren took Nightingale to their office while Brash and Eranon took a seat in the theatre. The bards listened to Nightingale’s concerns and agreed to pass them along to the Penumbra College with a promise to meet with him the next day with their replies. Outside Brash and Eranon watched with confusion as the theatre troupe rehearsed for their production. Not understanding what he was watching, Brash wondered why this group of people continued to have the same conversation over and over again.
After spending some time in the city, the group departed for Tionchar Winery. Upon arriving, Anton informed them that when he had sent workers to dispose of the Doom bodies from the night before the bodies were missing. The party traveled out to the location where they discovered tracks heading north off across the vineyard. The party pursued and came upon six men who were in the process of burying the bodies. A fight broke out, and all but one of the men were killed. This man had little to share but did information the party that he was under orders from Melaina Whitfield. The party decided that it was time to take care of the Whitfield problem themselves and headed for their orchard.
