As the last session began, it was mid-evening on the 6th day of the 1st Trigon of Elok’s Influence. The party stood in the hallway just outside the now-closed doorway into Obadiah Von Tenebrin’s study, having just returned things in the hallway to the way they found them.
The party left the hallway and entered the School of Conjuration’s greenhouse, where Zeftina Mildberry was waiting for them. Zeftina and Landis said their goodbyes, and the party returned to the Stargazer.
Upon arriving at the Stargazer, Captain Merfiz informed the party that Quint Foggrove was waiting for them in the skyship’s tavern. Quint, a former Obadiah apprentice, explained that Obadiah’s copy of Words Yet Spoken had shown up a few days ago in Quint’s chambers. Quint discovered a compass hidden in the back pages of the book that he believed pointed toward Obadiah. Quint was convinced that Obadiah was in trouble and asked that Landis try to find him. Landis promised he would, and the rest of the party pledged their assistance.
The Stargazer departed at once in the direction the compass was pointing. At first, Captain Merfiz believed that the party might be headed to the City of Alagon but following the compass had them fly right past. After crossing over the Bay of Dreams, the compass finally began to move to indicate that the party was in the right area. Circling the site, the captain was able to narrow down the likely location of Obadiah to what appeared to be a heavily wooded area that looked to be hiding ruins of some sort. The captain put the skyship down in a small clearing, and the party departed.
Walking into the forest, still following the compass, the group soon encountered an entrance into a rock wall guarded by a single guard and his dog. The party attempted to move in quietly, but the dog detected them. A short melee left the dog subdued and the guard having escaped downstairs into the area below.
The party pursued the guard down. After negotiating their way through a couple of locked doors, several additional guards were encountered, and a battle immediately erupted. A Grease spell cast upon the floor and ignited significantly increased the complexity of the battle. The guards did a good job of holding the line, and the party decided to retreat to the entrance to regroup. With the grease fire and subsequent smoke growing, the guards fled into the underground complex.
