As the last session began, it was early evening on the 21st day of the 1st Trigon of Elok’s Influence. The party was seated around a small wooden table, enjoying an ale with their tiefling guide. The effects of the day’s extreme heat and blazing sun had left them all tired. Xarmir had arranged for everyone to have a bed in the inn’s common room. He excused himself and headed off to bed, reminding the party that they would leave at sunrise for another long day in the desert.
The party finished up their drinks and headed to their beds. During his sleep, Nightingale was revisited by the dream he had shortly after the Dragonfly had passed through The Void during the trip to Coldhorn. Once again, Nava begged Bashir to come to her rescue, stating that she was still alive and being held captive. The dream greatly shook Nightingale.
At sunrise, the party headed out into the desert once again. Xarmir stated that if they held a good pace, they would make it to the Scar just before sunset. Despite a short battle against some giant desert scorpions, the party was able to arrive at the Scar on time.
Landis immediately sent Hero, his spider familiar, to scout out the Iceborn Orc encampment. Xarmir had told the party that the orcs only kept a minimal guard during the night, likely due to the sandstorms. Landis was able to confirm that only a lone guard could be seen outside of the tents. Next, Hero began checking the tents. Alanis was quickly located in the smallest and, thankfully, closest of the tents.
Nightingale quietly moved down to the tent, keeping it between himself and the lone orc guard. Entering the tent, he collected Alanis and anything worth taking. Alanis told him that the map on the table showed a new battle plan for the Iceborn Orcs. A plan that showed them picking up their advancement into Easterly with the apparent goal of taking control of The Step. Alanis asked that she and the map be taken to the Penumbra College as soon as possible. Leaving the Scar, Xarmir led the party to a small cave where they could hide from the night’s sandstorm and any Iceborn that might come looking for them.
At first light, the party left the cave and began their travels back to Blesa. Shortly after midday, they encountered six Iceborn Orcs who were clearly searching for them. As the two battled against each other, a Sand Spirit rose from the ground and joined in the fray. Through solid group battle tactics and spell casting, the party quickly took down their foes and continued toward Blesa. As the sun began to sink into the horizon, the party arrived and quickly took shelter as the night’s sandstorm began to intensify.
