Recap of Session 22

As the last session began, it was early evening on the 6th day of the 1st Trigon of Elok’s Influence. Captain Merfiz had just finished his tour and departed The Stargazer to round up his crew. The party stood on the aft deck overlooking Praddlepoint as the sun began to set on the strange industrial city. The duty crew was starting preparations for the morning departure. There was much to be done.

The party decided to head to a local tavern for food but were quickly called back to the skyship by Captain Merfiz to discuss their destination. The party decided to head to the City of Wilhorn to see if they could assist Lord Falmorn Riovar and Brell Courtland as they prepared to rescue King and Queen Evendor. With the plan complete, the party headed to bed.

At first light, the skyship departed Praddlepoint. As the ship backed away from the mooring tower, Douglan received a Sending message from Brell Courtland informing him that they had been able to rescue the King and Queen, who were now hiding at Courtland Keep in Wellspring. With this new information, the party decided to change course and head to Windrest so that Landis could attempt to acquire the final parts of his inheritance.

The flight to Windrest was uneventful, during which time the Stargazer’s 1st Mate, Fentra Briskstopple, gave the party an extensive orientation. This orientation included instructions on flying the skyship, firing the ballista and what to do if anyone fell overboard.

Arriving in Windrest, the party was met by two of the School of Conjuration professors. Tayress Truthwood and Palmyra Nazacrik became very cold toward the party as they learned Landis was with them. Palmyra dismissed Tayress stating she would deal with them. Once Tayress was gone, Palmyra apologized to Landis and offered to assist. Landis asked where they could find Zeftina Mildberry. Palmyra told the party she would most likely be in the school’s greenhouse.

The party left the Stargazer and walked to the school’s greenhouse. As promised, Zeftina was there. She was pleased to see Landis and immediately took the party through a magic door into a long hallway as instructed to do by Obadiah Von Tenebrin. She had no idea what was at the end of the hallway or why she was supposed to take Landis there.

The party walked down the hallway until they encountered a dead end. A black polished stone wall covered in keyholes stood before them. In front of the wall was a metal stand holding a statue of a wizard.

After a few attempts, one of which triggered a poisonous gas cloud, the party figured out the puzzle that Obadiah had left for them and opened the wall gaining access to a large circular room on the other side.

Looking inside, the party could see a pedestal in the middle of the room and a large statue on the far side. The pedestal contained a book and a staff, which looked made of stone. As Landis stepped into the room, the statue sprang to life and began to charge at the party. A voice boomed throughout the room, saying, “You should not have returned, Obadiah. You are no longer welcome here. Heed this warning and leave at once. Never return.”

Despite several vicious blows against them, the party destroyed the statue. It exploded into hundreds of pieces that quickly vanished. As the party members approached the pedestal, they discovered that the statue was rematerializing where it had first appeared.

Landis quickly approached the pedestal. As he did, the book and staff turned from stone into their normal state. Grabbing both, Landis and the party ran back into the hallway and closed the wall just as the statue became whole again.
