Recap of Session 04

As the last session began, the party stood on the upper floor of the old millhouse having just witnessed the disappearance of a heavily cloaked figure they had encountered there.  As the party began to search the room, a yell came from Wren on the floor below that they had company.  The party quickly descended the stairs and found Wren trying to hold the door closed against the flailing attacks of more Zombies that had appeared outside.  A short battle erupted which ended in a pile of stinking, rotten bodies piled in the doorway.

With the immediate threat taken care of, the party moved down the stairs into the old millhouse’s basement.  A place that remained unusually dark even with their torches lighting the way.  As Nightingale rounded the corner, he came face-to-face with a Zombie, but it did not attack or even move.  A quick visual search around the basement revealed the two young Tiefling sisters they had come to find standing against the far wall.  The Zombie held its ground as it seemed to be watching over the girls.  As soon as Nightingale approached the girls the Zombie attacked but was quickly sent back into the deathly state it should have stayed.  Wren raced over to the sisters only to find them in some kind of deep trance that they would not come out of.  The teardrop-shaped Sunstones they had shown to Wren were clearly visible still embedded in their chests.  Corvus and Douglan each took one of the girls over his shoulder and headed up the stairs.  After a quick search, the party departed for Whalespell leaving the old millhouse ablaze behind them.

In Whalespell once again, the party stopped at Wren’s townhouse near the harbour.  After the discovery of a large round Sunstone in a small wooden box they had found at the old millhouse, it was decided that there must be a connection between the Sunstones in the girl’s chests and this one.  The girls had snapped awake when this stone was picked up and were following it with their eyes everywhere it went.  The decision was made to destroy the large round Sunstone in hopes that it would break the trance the girls were in.  The plan worked and the girls were freed.  Still feeling the need to look after the girls, Wren made the decision to escort them back to their home in The Sea of Sand.  A round trip that would take her several months.

Departing Wren’s, the party returned to visit with Ferrik and Dawn.  There they learned that Douglan had been requested to return to The Wind Kept Citadel.  They traveled there at once and were seated before Galen and Odessa Atwater; the commanders of the citadel.  Galen and Odessa had arranged the meeting at Seer Yennall‘s request.  They shared all that they knew about the Gith in hopes that it would help Douglan on his quest.  This included information about the alliance between the Githyanki and The Dooms, and that The Vanguard had met with the Githinthor with the help of monks who lived in the Timeless Temple near the Kingdom of Alagon.  The Atwaters made it clear that they were not suggesting any course of action just providing what information they could to help you make a more informed one.  During the meeting, Odessa had taken notice of Corvus’ slave collar.  During a short private meeting with Corvus, Odessa professed her hatred of slavery and suggested that he go see Teemzaart Roywinkle at the Muck About tinker shop in Whalespell.  She believed that he might be able to remove the collar.

With their visit with the Atwaters complete, they headed to the Muck About where they indeed met with Teemzaart.  The eccentric Gnome explained that Corvus would have to let the collar choke him unconscious at which time Teemzaart could use the Slaver Ring to release the collar.  Thankfully, it worked and Corvus was freed from the collar.  Truly a free man once again.

Over the past several days, the decision had been made to travel back to the Kingdom of Evendor to speak with Anton.  Now was the time.  With their departure from Whalespell looming, they gathered with Ferrik, Dawn, Wren, and the sisters for a night of celebration.  After many laughs, dances, ales, and pitchers of goat milk, they retired for the night.
