The Long, Long Ago – For many millennia, Emathan existed as a world ruled by humans, orcs and dragons. A time marked with the construction of great kingdoms by all and the fighting of great wars between these kingdoms. There was no magic in Emathan during these times. They were times when the strength of muscle and will were all that stood between life and death.
The God’s Anger – Year 0 – It started without warning. Large fiery meteor storms began to rain down from the heavens causing great death and destruction to the peoples of Emathan. Many of the world’s inhabitants worried that the gods were angry with them and that the end of time would soon be at hand. This was not the case. After several weeks, the storms stopped as suddenly as they had begun. As the survivors emerged, they saw a very different Emathan. A world changed not just by the devastation of the meteors, but also by a strange new power that was sweeping over the lands. These meteors carried with them the very “stuff” of magic, and so it was that magic came to Emathan.
The Gathering – Year 0 to Year 5 – As Emathan’s surviving inhabitants began trying to put their world back together, they discovered great magical portals that became known as rifts had opened up seemingly at random across the lands. Through these rifts came beings from other worlds. Beings that all carried a similar story of trying to escape from the hell that was left of their home world. Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Halflings and many more entered Emathan with hopes of making a better life for their people.
The First Age – Year 0 to Year 1000 – The next thousand years were spent rebuilding the world; a world very changed by magic and its new inhabitants. The many rifts that had opened during “The Gathering” began to close, and soon they were all but forgotten by most. Then as Emathan approached the 1000th anniversary of “The God’s Anger”, rifts began to appear across the land once again.
The Second Gathering – Year 1000 to Year 1005 – In same way that “The Gathering” had brought beings from other worlds, “The Second Gathering” saw many more enter Emathan to make it their new home. Dragonborn, Tieflings, Goliaths, Warforged and many more entered during this gathering.
The Second Age – Year 1000 to Year 1998 – The last near thousand years has seen the many races of Emathan, both old and new, begin to build great kingdoms once again. Not quite the kingdoms of old, but ones that show promise that Emathan will one day reach the greatness it knew in the long, long ago
