As the last session began, it was early evening on the 40th day of the 2nd Trigon of Elok’s Influence. The party and Janka stood at the bottom of a long staircase leading to the city streets above. If the information the party received from Balko was correct, the Dark One’s camp would be no more than a block away. The last time Balko could spy on the camp, five of the Dark One’s elite guards watched over the area.
Janka moved to the top of the stairs to use her seer abilities to determine if anyone was outside of the door. She told the party that Ronin was there and immediately went out to meet him.
Janka explained that Ronin was another Vanguard agent who was watching over the area and providing intel to the Vanguard. Ronin introduced himself and explained what he knew about the area and the Dark One’s camp.
Ronin confirmed there were five of the Dark One’s elite guards in the area and the party set out to get Janka close enough to the Dark One that she could use her seer abilities.
As the party moved west through the city, they encountered one of the orc guards who was patrolling the area. The party made quick work of the orc, but not before the sound of combat alerted the others. Three more of the guards came after the party and each was quickly cut down.
Ronin climbed on the roof of one of the buildings to spy on the Dark One’s camp. A single guard remained at his post outside of the tent. The guard was clearly concerned as he quickly scanned the area looking for trouble.
After a short discussion, it was decided that Kogaan would draw the guard away from the area so that the party could get Janka inside the building next to the tent. The plan worked perfectly, and once the guard was out of sight of the tent, Kogaan took care of him.
Janka settled in under a window inside the building next to the Dark One’s tent and entered into a meditative state. A look of confusion crossed her face as she opened her eyes. “The body is empty. It has no spirit.”
Janka closed her eyes and tried again. Seconds later, she screamed and jumped to her feet yelling that they needed to run. Not knowing what was happening, the party ran with her, escaping back down into the sewer.
Once back in the sewer, Janka explained that the Dark One’s body had acted like a portal into a terrifying place filled with huge powerful demons and devils. She believes that the Dark One is controlled by those creatures.
The party discussed their next course of action and decided that they needed to take the opportunity to possibly rid Emathan of the Dark One using a Banishment spell. Janka told the party that her mission was to get the information she knew back to the Vanguard command, and she would not go with them.
Returning to the city streets, the party moved into position with Aldric and Ronin at the front. As Aldric prepared to cast the Banishment spell, Ronin ducked out from cover and shot an arrow which momentarily knocked one of the tent door flaps open. The tent was empty.
Not knowing the location of the Dark One any longer, the party decided that it was time to make their escape and head back down into the sewers.
As today’s session begins, it is early evening on the 40th day of the 2nd Trigon of Elok’s Influence. The party has just arrived back in the sewer room where they fought the Otyugh. As she had told the party she would, Janka has already departed for the skyship.
