Recap of Session 59

As the last session began, it was late afternoon on the 14th day of the 3rd Trigon of Elok’s Influence. The skyship remained engulfed in a fierce blizzard that continued to ice over the decks and hull, the accumulated ice threatening to bring the ship down if not cleared. Members of the crew frantically struck their wooden hammers against the growing ice, while others struggled to free some of the ballistae from the ice in preparation to defend themselves against the screeching, dragon-like creatures that had just buzzed the ship’s deck moments earlier.

Before most could decide what to do, a Frost Drake swooped in from the blizzard, crashing onto the upper deck and immediately attacking Ronin. Both the party members and the crew took this as their cue to drop their hammers and draw their weapons.

A second Frost Drake appeared and immediately blasted the stern of the ship with its frigid breath weapon. Several members of the party and crew were caught in the blast. When the blast subsided, the helmsman lay on the ground.

Captain Merfiz quickly moved to seize control of the ship as the party and crew engaged the Frost Drakes in battle. The captain shouted that he was taking the ship down because there was no way to contend with the growing ice on the ship and the Frost Drakes.

Kogaan and Ronin fought the drake on the forward deck while Douglan and Aldric battled the flying drake near the edge of the aft deck. The party members, assisted by the crew, managed to defeat the drakes just as the skyship emerged from the clouds in a swift descent toward the ground.

At the last second, Captain Merfiz pulled the ship up and around, forcing it down hard on the frozen ground, causing party and crew members alike to be thrown about the ship.

The Frost Drakes were not finished as two more approached the skyship, which now sat on the ground. The first Drake came in from the starboard side, blasting the ship with its breath weapon. A blast that struck Captain Merfiz full force, killing him instantly.

Hahnu leapt from the skyship with a roar that was strangely loud for his size, then transformed from a wyrmling into a young dragon. Young Hahnu blasted the Drake with his fiery breath, killing it instantly.

On the port side of the ship, the second Drake unleashed its breath weapon on the upper deck, causing several crew members to fall. Kogaan, Ronin, and young Hahnu quickly took down the beast as it landed on the deck. The battle was over.

Douglan rushed to Captain Merfiz's side and prayed to Gath to spare the old gnome’s life. Thankfully, Gath spared the captain, who woke up with immediate concern that he had crashed the ship.

Hahnu was just as surprised by the change in him as everyone else. That said, he was pleased with his new look.

Captain Merfiz told the crew that, with night quickly approaching, they should stay at this spot overnight and continue their journey in the morning. The party agreed.

During the night, Aldric successfully communed with his Patron from the Void, asking for guidance in finding the northern rift. His Patron gave him a vision that considerably narrowed the search area.

By morning, the weather had significantly improved. The Stargazer departed for the location given by Aldric’s Patron, and just before dark, Kogaan noticed a blue beam of light coming up from the ground.

Captain Merfiz put the skyship down about an hour's walk from the light, and the party disembarked. As they approached the area, several of the party members detected the smell of a campfire, and soon after, the flickering orange light could be seen in the distance.
