Outside, the sun was setting, and the darkness of night was descending. The party had just regrouped after defeating the zombie ogres. The cave seemed to grow increasingly colder as the feeling of dread grew. If ever death had a feeling for the living, this place was it.

Kogaan noticed light coming from a door not far away. The party moved forward and entered the room, which appeared to be an old temple. The party began to hear strange noises coming from a nearby well. As they approached, a Zombie Beholder rose up from the depths and attacked.

The battle was short but intense. The creature blasted Kogaan with one of its rotting eye stalks, causing necrotic energy to tear through his body like icy fingers of death. Douglan moved into position as Kogaan, and the others fought back. Then, with a powerful swing, Douglan’s halberd tore through the creature, killing it. The Zombie Beholder fell back into the well and down into the depths from which it had risen.

A quick search of the old temple revealed the prize they had come for. Lying with what one could only assume was Dagen Skylance’s skeleton was his Animated Shield and Horn of Blasting. Not wanting to remain in this place of death any longer than they had to, the party escaped back into the forest outside.

After a restless night camped out in the Dark Scars’ territory, the party left at first light. Along the way, they found signs of orcs heading toward the shores of the Midnight Depths, where the Stargazer was waiting. Using their Sending Stone, the party warned Captain Merfiz of the danger. Merfiz replied that they had already dealt with it.

Arriving at the Stargazer, the party immediately departed for Hofkiinseyuvonlok. It was time that Kogaan began his calling as Hahnuziiaak’s dovahkiir dienmaar. During the trip, Captain Merfiz relayed that High Commander Dragana Skyshield of the Vanguard wanted to meet with the party at Bellbroke Keep in the City of Evendor as soon as possible. The party determined they would go there after dropping Fariedah off at Windrest.

Arriving in the mountain village, Vuvahzen told Kogaan that multiple clutches had fully hatched in the past days and that Yuvon Dov Zii was showing signs of hatching. Kogaan went to the egg, which opened as he approached. The wyrmling greeted Kogaan with a puff of smoke and their bond was made.

Kogaan explained to the village elders that a difficult time lay ahead for Emathan, and that the village would need to be prepared to help in the fight. The elders promised that the village would be ready to answer Kogaan’s call when the time came.

The party, along with the wyrmling dragon, Hanhu, boarded the Stargazer and departed for Windrest so that Fariedah and Countersign could be dropped off.

Arriving in Windrest, the party met with Obadiah. The old wizard told the party that Landis had gone back to the Sea of Sand to try to retrieve more Devil Star diamonds. They believed the magic trapped inside them could create a spell that would close the rifts to Arcmyth when they opened. He promised to keep the party updated on their progress.

The party departed Windrest and made the short trip to Tionchar Winery. After a quick reunion with Douglan’s family, the party travelled by horseback to the City of Evendor and Bellbroke Keep to meet with Dragana.

At Bellbroke Keep, Dragana told the party that the Vanguard was struggling to keep up with the growing threat of the Dooms and Githyanki. She asked for the party’s help in the fight against this threat, and the party agreed. Dragana told the party about a Githyanki stronghold in Easterly that needed to be destroyed. The Vanguard in the region was occupied in fighting against the advancing Iceborn orcs. Dragana asked the party to ensure that the stronghold and, more importantly, any portal found there was destroyed. The party accepted.

With the immediate business completed, Dragana told Douglan that Commander Barlor needed to see him. Douglan entered Barlor’s office and took a seat. After a quick update on Maggie’s status as a Vanguard 2nd Lieutenant, Commander Barlor told Douglan that he had been courting Maggie and wanted to marry her. After the longest and most awkward pause ever recorded in the history of Emathan, Douglan told Barlor that he would consider it after talking to Maggie.
Added:
As the last session began, it was early evening on the 8th day of the 2nd Trigon of Elok’s Influence.
