Recap of Session 11

As the last session began, the party was seated around a large table at the Storm's End inn with Darrom and Diza. Darrom ordered food and drinks for all as they discussed their travel plans to Coldhorn. Darrom reminded the party that although he was paying the fare, they needed to confirm their passage to Coldhorn themselves. A passage that would take place on the Dragonfly owned by Windwalker Travels.

Shortly after the food arrived and everyone began to eat, Nightingale began to sense the same uneasy feeling he has had several times now. Sure enough, the voice of Lord Baskle began to speak inside his head once again. "Don't think because you left Evendor alive I have given up. I am tiring of this game. Time is up Bashir. Death calls you home."

As soon as Lord Baskle finished delivering his message, a young boy arrived at the table to deliver a scroll of paper that he had been told to give to Nightingale. The message on the scroll said "My name is Crimson Shiver. I have been contracted by Lord Baskle to kill you. This I will accomplish sooner than later. I have never failed before. You will not be the first. I am sending this note as a courtesy. I have always chosen to let my victims know that their death is imminent. I assure you that yours is." Nightingale decided it was not the right time to share the information.

The party next headed to Windwalker Travels where they met Captain Darrius Starsorrow, and his daughter, Silana Starsorrow. Silana spoke with the party and instructed them that they were to board the ship no later than 11:30 am as the Dragonfly would depart at noon. The party thanked Silana and headed to their accommodations at the Good Knight's Rest inn.

At the inn, the party decided that they would stay in the same room due to the shady nature of Vargas. Nightingale confided in Douglan about the trouble he was in with Lord Baskle after getting caught trying to hide the note he had received under Douglan's pillow. The party discussed the situation, and after setting up some traps and familiar watches, they settled in for the night.

In the morning, Malcolm arrived, and Nightingale asked him what he knew about the Crimson Shiver. Malcolm warned him that the Crimson Shiver was a legendary assassin based in Vargas who had never failed to complete a contract. None knew what he or she looked like.

Lafferty and Landis had Malcolm take them to a nearby magic store called The Broken Vial where they met Raloran Venmor, the owner of the shop. Lafferty and Landis spent some time looking over the small library in the store, and Lafferty purchased a book called "Spaces That Don't Exist". A book by Corthan Farixis on the theories of accessing extradimensional space for storage. Purchases made, the two headed back to the inn.

Once the party was back together, it was decided that they would head to the Dragonfly sooner than later in hopes that they could avoid any conflict with the Crimson Shiver. They beelined to the ship and boarded at once. At noon, the Dragonfly departed for Coldhorn.

The trip was uneventful until late afternoon on the cold, rainy second day. As the party went about their business below deck, they were alerted to danger by the ringing of the ship's bell. The party headed up on deck to see what was happening. There they could see that the skyship was fast approaching a wavering, shimmering wall of semi-transparent light. The party climbed onto the forward deck just as the ship entered the light.

The ship suddenly appeared in a vast void of space that was dimly lit by an undetermined source. More concerning were the thousands of large flying creatures that circled the ship in every direction. Seconds later, the creatures began attacking those on deck. They quickly engulfed several of the crew and the party as the others did their best to fight them off. The creatures seemed to be getting the upper hand against those on deck when the ship suddenly appeared back out of the void. The creatures were nowhere to be seen.

As everyone on the deck worked to regain their bearings and adjust to the bright light, they all started to become aware of the drastic change in weather from when they had entered the wall of light. Diza ran to Landis and pulled him to the edge of the ship. As the two looked across the landscape, they realized that the white and brown of winter had been replaced by the green of summer. How could this be?
